And not only for companies with large production sites or significant technical capabilities in the shipbuilding sector, but also for manufacturers of vehicles and equipment, for which the traceability of information relating to each individual product can become an added value offered to the customer, as well as one of the pillars of its production process.
The difficulties of digitizing the process
The companies are aware of the importance of the management of vehicles and equipment, both in terms of document archiving, and in the planning of maintenance and controls and related records. In fact, they invest time and resources in defining procedures and in adopting management systems that make it possible to keep track of all process information.
However, they generally encounter two obstacles in setting up the digital management of the machine park
- the absence of a single application capable of embracing the entire process, with the need to use different management systems, more or less integrated or integrable with each other. This means giving up the possibility of linear process management and in some cases, having to deal with a conflict between the planning of activities aimed at the customer or end user and that of internal management;
- the impossibility of tracing all communications relating to a specific resource, having to resort to separate communication media (e.g. e-mail, instant messaging). That is, they are unable to identify a system capable of archiving, and therefore creating a history, of the communications between the various company functions or suppliers that are involved to complete the activities relating to a vehicle or equipment.
